Women's Panhellenic Receives $5,000 Grant for Confidence Programming

Kappa Delta awards $51,000 in Confidence U grants to
Ten Universities and One Greek Professional
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Kappa Delta Sorority, creator of the Confidence Coalition, is pleased to announce the recipients of its Confidence U grants to provide confidence-building programming in college communities.
Ten grants of $5,000 each will go to Panhellenic offices across the country to fund numerous projects and speakers, including:
Clemson University will host speaker Caitlin Boyle, creator of Operation Beautiful, and hold a two-day women’s leadership and confidence retreat;
DePauw University will organize an accountability workshop and service projects, as well as bring speaker River Huston to campus to discuss self-esteem, alcohol issues, and more;
Florida State University will hold a Women Advocating for Healthy Relationships program;
James Madison University will use the grant to aid its “Be Beautiful” campaign and workshop;
Loyola Marymount University will put the grant funding toward its “I Am” campaign, including roundtables, video testimonials and panel discussions;
Quinnipiac University will address bullying and promote kindness by bringing the Kind Campaign to Quinnipiac and hosting a screening of the documentary, “Finding Kind”;
University of Mount Union will celebrate women and also confront eating disorders, mean girl behavior, mental illness and various other topics through interactive programs;
University of Washington will use the grant to enhance its Panhellenic Wellness Week and host body image speaker Stacy Nadeau;
Virginia Commonwealth University will organize the TH!NK Campaign, an initiative created by the College Panhellenic Council to encourage women to think before acting;
Washington University in St. Louis will address body image by bringing speaker Stacy Nadeau to campus and facilitate break-out conversations

Additionally, a $1,000 individual award is presented to Jenny Lopez, a graduate student and advisor to the Panhellenic and Multicultural Greek Councils at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Lopez will use the award money to help fund the campus-wide Women’s Empowerment Week she initiated and developed.
“Kappa Delta is proud to commend and support these 11 Confidence U recipients and the thousands of women who will be encouraged by their programs,” said Beth Langford, Kappa Delta Sorority National President. “We were excited to increase the number of grants from five grants in 2010 to ten this year.”

Kappa Delta Sorority is a national organization for women with over 230,000 members, 219 chartered collegiate chapters and 519 chartered alumnae chapters nationwide. In 2009, the sorority created the Confidence Coalition, an alliance of organizations and companies committed to promoting confidence in girls and women. In 2010, it created International Girls Day to empower girls to reach their potential. It also created National Women’s Friendship Month for women everywhere.
